Your FAU checklist

5 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things FAU freshmen figure out too late

Watch the video
  1. 1 Record your lectures. Florida law says so

FAU's guidance under Florida Statute 1004.097: "No, students do not need to ask for permission to record the class lecture IF they are making the recording for one of the permitted purposes" — including personal educational use. It covers lectures, not labs, class discussion, student presentations or exams, and recordings "may not be published or shared in any way without the lecturer's written consent".

  2. 2 Cheat twice and you are expelled

"In the case of a repeat offense, even if the notation of violation of the Code of Academic Integrity from the first offense had been expunged from the official transcript after successful completion of the Academic Integrity Seminar, the student will be expelled from the University."

  3. 3 No minor until 45 credits

"Students must declare their minor or enroll in a certificate program after earning at least 45 credits but before completing the final 30 credits required to graduate."

  4. 4 Your final can be on a Sunday

"Some final examinations may be scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays." Check the final exam schedule before you book a trip home.

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

Switch majors before 75 credits

"A change of major will not be considered for students who have completed 75 or more credits of coursework, unless there is a clear expectation that the graduation timeframe requirement will be met."

FAU Catalog — academic policies and regulations

Miss a gen ed minimum and it becomes NC

"Students will receive a grade of NC (No Credit) if their grade does not meet the minimum requirement." An NC earns no credit, so you take the course again.
