Your FGCU checklist

5 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things FGCU freshmen figure out too late

Watch the video
  1. 1 80 service hours or no diploma

"Students admitted to FGCU as first-year (FTIC) students or lower level transfers must complete 80 hours of service-learning as part of their graduation requirement." Start early, a few hours a term.

  2. 2 Record any lecture. No need to ask

"Consistent with Legislation effective as of July 1, 2021, a student may, without prior notice, record (video or audio) a faculty lecture for the limited purpose of 1) personal educational use". Do not record classmates, and a recording "may not be made public to a third party (i.e. publish) without the faculty member's prior, written consent."

  3. 3 A 90 is not always an A

"Numerical ranges corresponding to letter grades are established for each course according to the professional judgment of the instructor." Read each syllabus for its scale.

  4. 4 Switch majors? It must fit 4 years

"Undergraduate students wishing to change their major may do so, in consultation with University Advising Services, if all of the requirements can be completed without extending the anticipated graduation date."

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

Every degree needs sustainability

"Students receiving a baccalaureate degree from FGCU must complete at least three (3) semester hours of sustainability coursework with a minimum grade of C."

Unpaid at a company? Zero service hours

"Students cannot earn service-learning hours by working with a for-profit agency, even if they are not being paid."
