Your Memphis checklist

5 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things Memphis freshmen wish they knew sooner

Watch the video
  1. 1 You can declare up to four majors

"Within each program, Undergraduate students are allowed to declare up to four majors, and each major can have up to three concentrations."

  2. 2 Spring break means no due dates

Policy AA3031: "No academic assignments should be due on university holidays or during official breaks." Work can still be due at the first class after a break if your professor says so early in the term.

  3. 3 Back-to-back class? You may have to drop

Policy AA3034: "If the instructor of the second course is unable to accommodate late arrivals to class and the instructor of the first course is unable to accommodate early departures from class, the student should drop one of the classes and find a different class that will allow attendance for the full class period."

  4. 4 Your catalog expires in 7 years

"The degree requirements published in the Undergraduate Catalog of the University of Memphis are valid for seven years from the beginning of the academic year to which the catalog applies." The validity "applies only to degree requirements", not the academic regulations.

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

Apply to graduate a semester early

"All students are required to apply to graduate during the semester preceding the semester of graduation."
