5 things worth doing early
The East Lansing campus is 5,218 contiguous acres. About 2,100 of that is the developed campus you will actually cross between classes. Ten minutes on a map is not the same as ten minutes on foot in February — walk it once while nothing is at stake.
MSU pays the fare, so the campus routes cost you nothing. Routes 30, 31, 32, 33 and 39 run weekdays; 34, 35 and 36 run weekends. Weekday service starts at 7 a.m. and routes 30 and 31 run until 2:30 a.m. Campus routes do not run during spring break except route 32.
Every on-campus dining plan — Silver, Gold and Platinum — includes 12 Combo-X-Change redemptions a week, and the week runs Sunday through Saturday. It is a weekly allowance, not a bank, so the Sunday reset is the thing to plan around.
MSU Libraries puts textbooks and course materials on reserve at no cost — thousands of titles across a thousand-plus classes, more than half of them electronic. ASMSU rents graphing calculators, basic calculators and iClickers for free from Room 307 of the Student Services Building, due back the last day of classes. ASMSU will also print 25 pages a week for you free: email the file to print@asmsu.msu.edu and collect it from Room 307, weekdays 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Five syllabi, five different deadline formats, one week before any of it matters. Upload them to Gus and every due date lands in one calendar.
A correction to the video
The video says campus routes "30 to 39" are free. The accurate list is 30, 31, 32, 33 and 39 on weekdays plus 34, 35 and 36 on weekends — eight free-fare campus routes, not ten. 37 and 38 are not campus routes.
