5 things worth doing early
The Course Repeat Policy: "When the grade received in an initial attempt ... is a 'C-', 'D+', 'D', 'D-', 'F' or 'WF', the grade will be replaced in the calculation of the GPA by the grade received in any second attempt of the same course" at Mizzou. "No more than 15 semester hours will be dropped from the calculation of the student's GPA." The catch: it "will not be applied automatically to a student's GPA. After completing the second attempt of a course, a student must submit a request for GPA adjustment form to the University Registrar's Office." All attempts stay on the transcript, the repeat cannot be taken S/U, and full tuition applies.
The Absences policy: "Students are expected to attend all scheduled class sessions." Attendance standards are set by the school, department, course director or individual instructor, who "will determine whether a student will be permitted to make up work missed as a result of absence(s). There is no dean's excuse or official absence." That means every class can have different rules. Read each syllabus's attendance section in week one, and email the instructor before — not after — a planned absence.
"Students may drop a course through the end of the business day of the fifth week or the 25th class day of the semester. It will have no effect on the grade point average." After that, leaving a course is a withdrawal: "a grade of W for withdraw is recorded. W grade does not affect the grade point average." The withdrawal process "must be completed by the end of the business day, typically Monday of the last week of classes." Withdrawing from your last class has to go through your academic advising unit. Check how a withdrawal affects your aid and full-time status first.
Late Registration: "A student cannot register in classes offered by any school or college after one week following the first day of classes in a regular semester." Exceptions are limited to things like internships, research and special readings. If a section is not working in the first days, swap it then. By the second week the door is closed.
Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.
