Your Ole Miss checklist

5 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things Ole Miss freshmen figure out too late

Watch the video
  1. 1 15 minutes late? You lose the exam

"Tardiness beyond 15 minutes forfeits a student's right to an examination." It sits under the regulations for all examinations, so it covers midterms and quizzes as well as finals.

  2. 2 Drop by day 35 and it never happened

"A student may drop any course, using the online system, until the course withdrawal deadline, which is the 35th day in which classes meet during a regular semester." And: "No indication of enrollment in a course properly dropped will be shown on any University of Mississippi record." Find the exact date for your term on the academic calendar.

  3. 3 A harder section is not grounds to appeal

"A grade appeal cannot be based upon differences in grade assignments between multisection courses, whether or not the course sections are taught by the same instructor." An appeal has to be about how your own grade was assigned, and the first step "must be initiated within 30 calendar days of the posting of the course grade".

  4. 4 Graduating in May? You have to walk

"Attendance at commencement exercises is required for those students who graduate at the end of spring or summer semesters." "In case of hardship, a student may petition his or her academic dean to be excused."

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

Leave the exam room and you fail the exam

The same rule lists "absence from the room during the course of an examination without the consent of the examiner" among the things that "shall result in failure of the examination." Ask before you step out.

Ole Miss Catalog — undergraduate academic regulations

Pass/fail here is a Z, and you get one

"A current undergraduate student who is classified as a junior or senior may elect to take one course for credit toward the student's undergraduate degree that would ordinarily be graded on an A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D, or F basis but for which the student will receive either a Z or an F grade."
