5 things worth doing early
Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences: "First-year students may not take online courses in their first term." "For students who begin in the summer or fall, they may not take online courses until the spring." Other Pitt schools set their own rules, so check yours.
"Under this option, students earn an H if they do exceptional work (equivalent to an A- or higher under the letter grade system)". But "The H and S grades received under this option are counted toward graduation but are not computed in the student’s GPA." Only certain courses offer H/S/U.
"A student with a term GPA below 2.0, or more than one unresolved incomplete grade, or who fails to fulfill a specific academic program requirement will receive an Academic Review." It is a flag, not probation: "A student on Academic Review maintains Good Academic Standing."
"With the exception of students who receive their diplomas at individual school ceremonies, all diplomas are mailed to students approximately four weeks after the official certification date for each graduation period." And "The official certification of degrees typically occurs several weeks after the ceremony." Keep your mailing address current.
Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.
Finished a minor? Put it on your grad application
"Students who complete an approved minor or certificate will have it listed on their transcript, provided that the minor or certificate is indicated on the application for graduation."
Pitt Undergraduate Catalog — Dietrich School of Arts and SciencesDietrich credits have a 12-year limit
"All of the credits required for a degree, whether earned in residence or transferred from another institution, must have been earned within 12 years prior to the date on which the degree is awarded." The school says the limit can be waived.
