Your Syracuse checklist

5 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things Syracuse freshmen figure out too late

Watch the video
  1. 1 An AI detector alone is not proof

An academic integrity report about AI use "cannot be submitted to the AIO with only AI detection results as proof of violation (i.e., reporting instructor must submit additional evidence beyond AI detection)." The report also has to explain the AI rules your instructor set for that course.

  2. 2 Want Newhouse? Move before 60 credits

To switch into the Newhouse School from another SU school or college, you need "a minimum of 30 graded (not P/F) credits at SU" first. And: "Juniors (60+ credits completed) and seniors are ineligible to transfer." It also takes a B in COM 107 and in an approved writing course.

  3. 3 Ungraded drafts still need citations

Sources must be credited in every kind of academic work, "including any draft assignment submitted to an instructor, regardless of whether the draft will be graded."

  4. 4 Study abroad grades count in your GPA

"All courses taken at Syracuse Abroad centers are listed on students’ transcripts." And: "Credit hours and grades are computed in the GPA in the same manner as any other Syracuse University courses." Courses from other schools are different: "Grades do not transfer and do not affect your Syracuse University cumulative GPA."

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

Missing a deadline will not fix your transcript

"The transcript may not be modified or selectively deleted for any reason, including ignorance of deadlines or academic rules."

Winterlude counts toward spring

"Winterlude is a part of the Spring semester and the maximum load of 19 credits includes both spring and Winterlude classes." And: "The maximum credit load for Winterlude is four credits."
