Your Texas Tech checklist

5 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things Texas Tech freshmen figure out too late

Watch the video
  1. 1 An A-minus counts as a full A

"Instructors may choose to add a plus or a minus to the grade. These will be entered on the transcript but will not be used in the calculation of the student's cumulative grade point average." The other side of it: a B+ is still just a B in your GPA.

  2. 2 Old exams from a friend count as cheating

Under cheating, the policy lists "Possession, at any time, of current or previous course materials without the instructor's permission". You do not have to use the old exam for it to count. If you want to study from past tests, ask the instructor whether they are allowed.

  3. 3 Sign in and leave? That is misconduct

Misrepresenting facts includes "signing into class and failing to remain the entire time". If you have to leave early, tell the instructor rather than signing in and slipping out.

  4. 4 Three finals in one day? No rule saves you

"There is no university policy that provides relief to students who have three or more examinations scheduled the same day". The same policy says: "Students should check the Final Examination Schedule prior to registration in order to avoid an inconvenient overload during final exams."

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

Reusing your own paper is plagiarism

OP 34.12 lists "Self-plagiarism, which involves the submission of the same academic work more than once without the prior permission of the instructor". Ask before you turn in something you wrote for another class.

Texas Tech OP 34.12 — Grading procedures, including academic integrity

Every Core class takes attendance

"Faculty must use RaiderCanvas to provide, at a minimum, for all organized classes of five students or more:" — and the list includes "Attendance tracking for all TTU Core classes."
