Your UConn checklist

4 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things UConn freshmen wish they knew sooner

Watch the video
  1. 1 No surprise exams outside class time

"During the semester or term, assessments shall be held only during regularly scheduled class periods." An instructor who needs an exam outside class time "must seek approval from the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs prior to the start of registration."

  2. 2 A fake excuse is academic misconduct

The Student Code's definition of misrepresenting includes "making false, inaccurate, or misleading claims or statements, including claims/statements made when asking for assistance (e.g., requesting an extension on an assignment)".

  3. 3 No rule given? Assume you work alone

Students are expected to "assume they are to do independent work and seek clarification prior to collaborating with others or using outside resources." Instructors, in turn, are expected to note "what resources can be used and whether collaboration is permitted." So check the assignment sheet, and ask.

  4. 4 Switch schools and your rules reset

"When students change schools their catalog year for the second school is the year of the change, unless the dean of the school to which they transfer makes an exception." Your Common Curriculum (gen ed) year does not change: it "remains the year of admission or readmission to the University."

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

Not registered by day 10? Reapply

"All undergraduate students who fail to complete initial course registration by the end of the tenth day of classes of any semester will be dropped from active status." And: "To enroll at a future date, individuals dropped from active status must apply for readmission."

UConn Undergraduate Catalog — academic regulations (failure to register)

Take MATH 1011Q first or lose the credit

"To receive credit for MATH 1011Q Introductory College Algebra and Mathematical Modeling, it must be passed before successful completion of any other Q course."
