Your USF checklist

5 things worth doing early

When you need help

5 things USF freshmen figure out too late

Watch the video
  1. 1 Record any lecture. No permission needed

"Students may, without prior notice, record video or audio of a class lecture for a class in which the student is enrolled for their own personal, educational use (USF Policy 10-048)." It covers lectures only: not labs, class discussion, student presentations or exams. And recordings "may not be published or shared without the written consent of the faculty member."

  2. 2 Your job is not an excused absence

"Employment schedules, athletic training and practice schedules, and personal appointments are not valid reasons for scheduled absences."

  3. 3 Teammate cheats? You own it too

"All team members shall be held responsible for the content of all teamwork submitted for evaluation as if each team member had individually submitted the entire work product of their team as their own work."

  4. 4 Excused from a test? It cannot be the drop

When an absence is excused, the instructor has to give you a real chance to make it up. "Counting the missed examination as a lowest score to be dropped at the end of the term does not constitute a reasonable opportunity."

  5. 5 Record the lecture — Gus makes the notes, flashcards and quiz

Gus is an AI college companion built around your actual classes. Record a lecture and it writes the notes, pulls out the key topics, builds a flashcard deck, and makes a practice quiz from what was actually said. The flashcards come back on a spaced-review schedule, so the thing you missed shows up again right before you would have forgotten it. It is free to try.

One more thing

After 6 terms, only required classes

"FTIC or transfer students who have been an active student for six (6) or more terms at a post-secondary institution will not be allowed to enroll in courses that are not required for completion of the declared primary major based on the university degree audit system."

USF Policy 10-505 — degree progression

Exam clash? The alphabet decides

When two finals collide and the other rules tie: "If after applying items 1 through 4, there remains a conflict, priority shall be given to the course with the prefix closest to the beginning of the alphabet."
